Wasteless Toolbox

FLW — Practice Suitability Questionnaire

Welcome to the WASTELESS Decision Support Toolbox. This tool is designed to help you choose the most suitable methods to measure food loss and waste (FLW) and provide you with examples of how other people have implemented these methods before. Please, provide some information about who you are and what you expect of the method and the tool will give you a ranking of the FLW measurement methods best suited for you and a list of practice abstracts describing how the methods were implemented in scenarios similar to yours.

All the data you provide is completely optional. The tool is set up with default values so that it always returns some results. The more data you provide, the more tailored the results can be to your use-case.

Each selection shows the number of available results in parentheses.

1
Can you get direct access to the FLW being quantified?
⚙️ Don't know default
2
How important is it to have a low level of uncertainty (high degree of accuracy in the FLW results)?
⚙️ Don't know default
3
Is the FLW mainly liquid or solid?
⚙️ Mixed liquid and solid default
4
Does all, some, or no FLW go down the drain/sewer?
⚙️ Some default
5
Is a material/significant amount of FLW in its packaging?
⚙️ Don't know default
6
Is the FLW (whether packaged or not) mixed with other items or materials (e.g. soil, garden/yard waste, non-organic solid waste, etc.)?
⚙️ Don't know default
7
Are inputs and outputs recorded that could be used for inferring the amount FLW? (e.g. in a factory, the amount of ingredients entering the site and the amount of product leaving the site)
⚙️ No default
8
Is there existing information that describes how FLW varies in response to other factors (e.g. with climate, soil conditions, crop/food type)?
⚙️ Not applicable default
9
Do you have access to existing records that could be used for quantifying FLW? (For this purpose, records are individual pieces of data that have been written down or saved often for reasons other than quantifying FLW, e.g., waste transfer receipts or warehouse record books.)
⚙️ Don't know default

When checked, practices from other projects are also included.
